The pompous and extravagant court of these two baroque princes, the grand baroque buildings and gardens built in Saxony, the opulent artistic life in Dresden and the priceless art collections of Dresden were widely recognised throughout Europe. They made the city of Dresden what it is today: One of the finest cities of the arts in Europe standard with the most splendid palaces.

The "Moor with the Emeralds"

The precious, unique treasure chamber of the Saxon court, known throughout the world as the "Green vault", can now be admired again in Dresden's residential palace. One of the highlights of this unique collection is the "Moor with Emeralds", a wooden sculpture by the great sculptor Balthasar Permoser decorated with gold, silver and jewels by court jeweller Johann Melchior Dinglinger, which holds the largest emerald in the world in its hands. The Saxon Porcelain Manufactory of Dresden managed to create an identical porcelain replica of this unique moor using finest traditional methods.
